AIDS Ark’s principal aim is to fund the delivery of ARVs to named individuals on the frontiers of HIV care in the developing world. We typically support doctors on the ground who have patients in need of ARVs who cannot otherwise access these live-saving drugs. Once ARVs become available from other organisations, partner doctors will transfer AIDS Ark recipients onto these larger schemes, so we can continue our work on the frontiers of ARV availability.
In every country where we work, it has proved possible ultimately to transfer AIDS Ark beneficiaries to alternate schemes, thus releasing AIDS Ark funds to assist yet more new patients who have no access to ARVs aside from those provided through AIDS Ark support.
We work only with doctors who have suitable training and can demonstrate relevant experience and an adequate support structure, ideally including counsellors, educators, nurses, outreach workers and administrative support. Following review and approval, we invite doctor-led practices to apply for AIDS Ark to fund a set number of named individuals who meet our criteria.
AIDS Ark trustees try to visit each of the grantees annually. We audit grant spending and strengthen our rapport with both medical teams and ARV recipients. We follow with interest how our recipients progress with their treatment and how they and their families fare in general.
If you are a community project or charity in the developing world who wants to provide HAART medication and care to people with HIV/AIDS, please register your interest here and we will be in touch.
